Brooklyn-based photographer Tal Shpantzer exhibited her latest series entitled “Petal Portraits” last week as part of Dumbo’s First Thursday series art walk. The portraits, each featuring a woman paired with a flower, are striking in both simplicity and richness of detail.
Shpantzer spent time studying & shooting in Tel-Aviv and Prague prior to graduating from The Minneapolis College of Art and Design. She is the recipient of a Soros Center for Contemporary Art grant, and a Morrison Vanderlip media award.
“I am fascinated by the dialogue that arises from and interests with expressions of uncertainty and states of transience,” she said. “What I see may appear to be the simplest of moments and yet reveal otherwise unknown complexities or evoke imagined histories and hidden truths.”
