Thomas Devaux is a Parisian artist and photographer known for stunning yet haunting photographic portraits. Winner of the SFW Artists Award (2014) and BOURSE DU TALENT 46 (2011) Devaux manipulates his photographs with a clean, painterly style to create both tension and drama in his compositions.

This series, entitled “ATTRITION,” was once displayed by David Lynch during the inauguration of the filmmaker’s Paris nightclub, Silencio. Devaux’s portraits of models taken behind the scenes at runway shows are at once elegant and ephemeral, deconstructing the visual frame as a means to create what he calls “controlled balance.”

“[Devaux’s] harvest of photos in the same way that he uses his other fragments of images found in art books in the final objective of elaborating beautiful yet fiercely haunting collages for his series. Here is where the capital notion of “tearing asunder” comes into in his work. The manual destruction or digital tearing asunder”
