At Beautiful Savage Magazine, we’re always on the lookout for fresh perspective, for new and innovative ways to see the world. Which is why we called for submissions to our young photographer contest. We want to highlight the emerging talent hidden in our midst—the proverbial diamond in the rough. We received a ton of impressive submissions and painstakingly narrowed it down to our favorites: among them was the Brooklyn-based, Robert Hubert.

Hubert is a Pratt graduate who’s been taking photos for as long as he can remember. He’s inspired by the simplicity and grit of the photographic style found in 90’s zines. Growing up in the digital age, Hubert appreciates the tangibility of printed imagery. He sees his work as narrative, providing an intricately crafted snapshot of a moment in time. Hubert aims to draw attention to seemingly insignificant and often overlooked details. He says, “Masculine imagery has been a big influence on my work, trying to find something beautiful in a subject that is not normally associated with fine art.”
