Menswear designer John Varvatos, long known for his rock-inspired aesthetic, teamed up with his self-described heroes, rock icons KISS this season to present his latest collection. The band who brought glam to the mainstream many decades ago was strutting the runway at Milan Fashion Week and recently performed an invitation-only event at the Varvatos flagship retail location at 315 Bowery.

“I knew John’s clothes for years because they have all those elements that I love in clothes, which are timeless,” Said Paul Stanley in an interview with HuffPo. “There is a style that goes back to some of the great rock ‘n’ roll bands of the 60s.”

The Varvatos runway show this season contains the strong tailoring and the dark monochrome palette prevalent to the brand, but with just a touch of Kiss makeup. “I wanted to sprinkle a little magic dust throughout the clothes in this collection, highlighting the idea of sartorial daring and masculine confidence that is integral to my vision, bringing it a new level,” said Varvatos. “While working with KISS on my new advertising campaign, I was taken by how much everybody, regardless of their age, loves them. For me, it is the idea of the superhero, a man in disguise with incredible powers, that makes the KISS myth so enduring and appealing, and it’s exactly that mindset that I wanted to explore.”
