After co-producing Björk’s 2015 release Vulnicura, ARCA aka Alejandro Ghersi released his own album Mutants to unilateral acclaim from the critics at i-D magazine, Pitchfork, and Stereogum. “Mutant is about sensuality and impulsiveness as escape routes out of rigidity,” he said of the release. “Softness as a weapon when the mind attacks itself.”
ARCA is a 25-year-old record producer and mixing engineer educated at the Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music at New York University. To close out 2015 he released “Urchin,” a darkly textural four-minute electronic arrangement, akin to waking, or drifting, into a dream state. In 2013 ARCA assisted the production of four songs from Kanye West’s YEEZUS, and in 2014 released his first full length studio album entitled Xen.
Next year Arca is slated to work with Hood By Air designer Shayne Oliver, releasing the first album from the pair’s “Wench project.” They released a teaser track called “Galvanise” during the Hood By Air SS/16 New York Fashion Week runway show back in September.
