Hailing from East London, Old Apparatus are a mysterious “beat collective” who I got into after hearing their sinister-sounding promo mix on Deep Medi Musik last winter. They recently started their own label, Sullen Tone, and the first EP drops on July 16 (pre-order available here).

In advance of the release, watch and space out to this terrific video for title track “Derren.” The song’s sedate, ambient soundscape is complemented by a soft, acoustic guitar loop and washed out vocals. The visuals feel like an old high school science film, where MRI scans seamlessly flow into brain waves via polychrome and outdated computer graphics.

Below is a surreal video for an older track “14:00,” a preview of what’s to come via the new label, and a link to Old Apparatus’ nightmarish photography.
