Maxine Ashley, a 20-year-old Bronx, New York native, is definitely an artist to keep your eye on.

Like so many aspiring singers these days, Ashley got her start on YouTube. Millions of views later and this pint-sized siren is recording with producers like Pharrell Williams and DJ Alex Guadino. Now, in preparation for the release of her first official EP Mood Swings, Ashley has released the video for her cover of Portishead’s “Glory Box.”

For the most part, it’s a pretty standard cover, but Ashley’s vocals are smooth like honey. Production from Krucial Noise—who worked with artists like Alicia Keys—give the song a more modern sheen and tweak Ashley’s voice in some eerie ways that make the whole affair hauntingly sexy.

The video, on the other hand, plays more like an editorial fashion film, but that’s fitting seeing as how one of the singer’s tracks was selected for the soundtrack to Lanvin’s Spring/Summer 2012 collection. When the screen turns to color, you get an even better idea of just how wild this child might get. Check the neon hair.

Head on over to SoundCloud and grab a free download, and keep your eyes peeled for the Mood Swings EP arriving on October 1.
