While there are no news of a new studio album, Scottish post-rockers Mogwai will soon be releasing a remix of their 2011 album Hardcore Will Never Die, But You Will via their label, Rock Action Records. Among the many contributing artists to A Wrenched Virile Lore are Justin Broadrick (of Jesu/Godflesh/JK Flesh) and Tim Hecker. So far one remix has been released for free download: an excellent, post-disco take on “How to Be a Werewolf” by Xander Harris, which is also streaming on Soundcloud above.

The group is currently on tour, having played two nights with Balam Acab in New York this past week. After two cancellations due to health issues and visa problems last year, I was finally able to see Mogwai live, and as usual, they did not disappoint. While they played extremely loud (my right ear hated me on Friday), I could still hear every gorgeous layer of each song amidst the wall of sound. The different setlists for Thursday and Friday were inclusive of their seven studio albums, and I’m glad I went to both shows as I was able to hear some of my favorites: “I Know You Are But What Am I,” “Ex Cowboy,” “Like Herod,” and “Hunted by a Freak.” Both nights were incredible, but seeing Mogwai in 2009 in Boston, where the encore was “My Father, My King,” will still go down as my favorite show of theirs to this day.

Stay tuned to the official Mogwai website or Facebook page for more announcements on A Wrenched Virile Lore.
