Here’s a stark new video for “AM” by Brooklyn-based producer Bonnie Baxter aka ShadowBox. Directed by Matt Kliegman, the video for The Knife-esque track centers on a bowler-hat wearing stranger reminiscent of Rene Magritte’s The Mysteries of the Horizon as he repeatedly ascends and descends subway escalators with seemingly no end in sight. Kliegman uses a clear symbol to express the themes of repetition and uniformity, but skillfully expands on it through film editing. Several shots also bring to mind M. C. Escher’s famous gravity-defying lithographs Relativity and Convex and Concave. These dark and surreal visuals perfectly complement the anxious, electronic track.

ShadowBox’s debut 12″ EP Haunted by Colors is out later this month through Pictures Music. You can pre-order the album on Bleep now and download “AM” and the gorgeous “Running Like A Ghost,” for free below.
